Appeal success – upward extension to an existing three storey detached block of flats

Runnymede Borough Council refused permission for an additional floor containing two. flats to an existing three storey detached block of flats in Englefield Green. The Council refused to grant prior approval against Schedule 2, Part 20, Class AA of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (as amended). Their decision was based on the external appearance of the building.

Cameron Jones Planning produced a comprehensive appeal statement and submitted the appeal to the Planning Inspectorate. The Inspector agreed with our case that the increase in height and proportion would appear relatively modest compared to the existing building. The proposal would maintain the building’s existing architectural style, reflecting closely the red brick materials and large window patterns. The building already holds a prominent position within Englefield Green. This established presence means that the change would read as a natural evolution of its form rather than a sudden or intrusive alteration.
